What a crazy week. On one of the particularly bad days we had a particularly bad experience. I was ripping down wallpaper in the hall 1/2" at a time. GRRRR! Meg and Adin were playing in Meg's room. Well Adin tried to climb on Meg's perfectly made bed which upset Meg. She picked up Adin and set him outside her door and slammed the door shut. Well, his had happened to be in the door. Three of his fingers were in the hinge side of the door and Meg pushed the door with all her might and made it shut completely while his fingers were in there. I had heard the screaming at the begining and right before she slammed the door I yelled back "Meg don't slam the door," then I heard the scream. I knew right away that this couldn't be good. I called Brian at school and told him to bring the car home. Adin screamed the whole 15 minutes we waited for Brian. His fingers started swelling a lot. They were HUGE! We took him to the pediatrician who ordered x-rays. The x-rays (THANKFULLY) were negative. The doctor wanted him to keep the splint on, but said if he was really annoyed by it then we were okay to take it off since it wasn't actually broken. The second we got him home he wanted it off. They are still tender, but he is such a tough kid that he doesn't complain.
Meg was a disaster. As soon as I told her what she did, she went to her room bawling her lungs out (just as loud or louder than Adin). It was such a panicked moment trying to help bub and keep ice on it that I couldn't help her right away. When I did ask her why she was crying she said (howling) "I don't want to go to jail" We have absolutely no idea where she got this idea. We didn't think she even knew what jail was. No matter how much we reassured her she was certain she was going to jail. At the doctor's office, Adin was so brave and didn't even cry for any of it. Meg on the other hand was bawling her eyes out (she hates the doctor). Thank goodness things like that don't happen everyday.

Playing it up. We would ask him what happened to his fingers and he would get a moping voice and say "Owie Muggie"

Oh so sad for Adin. I hate when things like that happen. it's pretty traumatic--not just for them but for the parents too.
Poor kid! My dad accidentally shut Ty's fingers in the broken back door, so we had to get the door open with a screw driver. I felt so bad and there isn't much you can do for the pain at that point. Candy and ice cream seem to help :)
