We have finally had really nice weather, and we have stayed cooped up at home. My sister, Sarah, got married on March 13. That brought family to town and lots of family get togethers. Joy of joys, we got a 5 day stomach flu bug just a few days before the wedding. On top of that, I was doing her wedding cake. Doing cakes is something that I have always enjoyed, but is definitely not easy with kids. If I ever do this on a regular basis (and that is a big if), I will be waiting until my kids are in school full time. At one point during Sarah's cake, Meg said to me, "When Sarah asked you to do her cake did she realize that you have kids that need taking care of?" That says a lot. I pretty much planted the kids in front of the TV for a few days and the house went to pot.
This is Sarah's cake. I claim no creative genius for either of these cakes. Both brides gave me pictures of cakes and I just recreated.
Now, Sarah's was the first wedding cake that I had done in 2 years. Out of coincidence, a close friend of mine from our first ward in Orem had her daughter's wedding the week after my sisters. Sheesh! I really should have turned her down, but I didn't. So as soon as Sarah's wedding was over the planning began for the next wedding cake. I took a day to regroup and cleaned the whole house. Then went back to work ignoring my children and allowing my house to become unlivable. I delivered this cake on Friday and felt this immediate feeling of relief at being completely done with these projects. Good riddance to the wedding cakes. Up next, getting reacquainted with my kids and returning my house to order.
